In addition to writing traditionally published, printed books, I’ve produced a number of how-to guides in digital media formats, including training videos and ebooks.
Training Videos
In 2006, I began creating full-length training videos available on DVD or for download. Here’s a reverse chronological list of titles that are completed, currently in the works, or in the planning stages:
Office 2008 for Mac: Small Business Projects, Lynda.com, November 2009. Shows how anyone can build a small business with the tools provided in Microsoft Office 2008.
- Twitter Essential Training, Lynda.com, April 2009. Tells you everything you need to know to get up and running with Twitter, for personal or business use.
- Self-Hosting a WordPress Site, Lynda.com, January 2009. Covers the additional things a user needs to know to self-host a WordPress 2.7 blog. The WordPress.com 2.7 Essential Training course (see below) or knowledge of WordPress is prerequisite.
- WordPress.com 2.7 Essential Training, Lynda.com, January 2009. Covers WordPress.com as of December 11, 2008.
- WordPress.com 2.5 Essential Training, Lynda.com, June 2008. Covers WordPress.com as of June 2008 for Mac OS and Windows.
- Word 101: Mastering Microsoft Word, macProVideo, August 2006. Covers Word 2004 for Mac; also applies to Word 2003 for Windows.
eBooks for Major Publishers
In 2008, I produced my first full-length eBook for a major publisher.
- QuickBooks Accounting 2009 for Mac: The Official eBook, Intuit Press, October 2009. (Limited distribution eBook offered as a free download for all QuickBooks 2010 for Mac owners.)
- QuickBooks Accounting 2009 for Mac: The Official Guide, Intuit Press, September 2008. (Limited distribution eBook offered as a free download for all QuickBooks 2009 for Mac owners.)
Maria’s Guides Printable Articles
In an effort to get support for the content that appears on this site, I’ve begun creating printable editions of content that appears here. These PDF documents, which are not copy-protected, are available for sale at prices ranging from $1.00 to $4.95. Each document includes all the information, instructions, and illustrations that appeared in the online version of the article, but it has been reformatted with a layout that makes it perfect for printing. It’s my hope that site visitors see the value in these articles and are willing to spend this small amount of money for their own copy. Not only will it help me cover the costs of hosting this site, but it will encourage me to create new content regularly.
Here’s a list of the articles currently available as print versions. You can click the article link to go to the article on this site or click the Buy Now button to purchase a printable version.
-
How to Add a Second Display to Your Mac, April 4, 2008, $1.00
-
Registering and Unregistering Computers for .Mac Sync, February 8, 2008, $1.00
-

Maria’s Guides eBooks
I started my own series of eBooks in May, 2005. My eBooks are affordably priced at only $3.95 to $9.95, illustrated, and designed for easy onscreen reading. Here’s a reverse chronological listing of current titles. I have more titles on the back burner; you can use the Contact link to tell me about the topics you’d like to see in future books.
- Maria’s Guide to Publishing an iTunes-Compatible Podcast
- Maria’s Guide to Writing a Book Proposal
- Maria’s Guide to What’s New in Tiger
10 Quick Steps
I also wrote electronic books for the 10 Quick Steps series published by David Lawrence. These guides, which are available as PDF format files as well as in MP3 format (read by David—not me!), are informative guides to getting a task done in 10 easy steps. I enjoy writing them because they allow me to exercise my sense of humor. Readers like them because they’re affordable, fun to read, and cover a wide range of topics.
