Support this Site!

You may have noticed that there's very little third-party advertising on this site. I'd like to keep it that way. Here's how you can help:

  • Buy my books. They're available at great prices on Amazon.com.
  • Check out my training videos on Lynda.com. It's a great source for "all you can eat" training.
  • Donate a few dollars. It'll help cover my hosting costs and give you a chance to tell me what you want to see covered here.
  • Comment on blog posts. You can help get a discussion going that can benefit others, making the site more valuable for everyone.

About

Welcome to Maria’s Guides, a blog-based Web site built and maintained by Maria Langer to offer support and additional material to the folks who read her books and articles and watch her video training courses.

The topics you’ll see covered here include Mac OS, Microsoft Office products, blogging tools such as WordPress, and social networking services such as Twitter. Maria has written about or created video training material for all of these topics. As she works on new topics, you’ll see them covered here, too. Maria writes about what interests her, covering the software that many people use on a regular basis.

There’s a lot of material here — this site has been archiving content since 2004. Some of that might be a bit out-of-date for the average user, but there’s always someone using older systems or software that can benefit from it. You can use navigation bar links to zip right to a specific book or video and get information about it, as well as links to related downloads and other content. Or you can use the Topics and Tags links on the left side of the window to go to a specific topic that interests you. When using these links, remember that content is listed in reverse chronological order, so the newest material will always appear at the top of the page.

Your comments are always welcome — although they are moderated to weed out spam and abuse. Use the comments link for any post to comment about its contents. You can comment on this post if you have some general thoughts about the site. And finally, if you want support for Maria’s published work, leave a comment on the page for that work; you’ll find links to currently supported work in the horizontal navigation bar. This comment-based support makes it possible to receive and answer questions about a book in a place where everyone can read and benefit from the answers.

About Maria Langer

Maria is a freelance writer who has been writing about computers since 1990. She prefers Macs, but occasionally writes about Windows applications, too. She’s written over 70 books and hundreds of articles and has recently begun creating digital media such as video training material and e-books.

Maria is also a commercial helicopter pilot and writes a bit about aviation and travel, but if you’re here, you probably don’t care much about that.

Availability for Future Projects

Maria is always interested in new writing and training projects, including software how-to books, video training material, and classroom-based training sessions throughout the United States. She has extensive experience over a 20-year period in all of these types of work.

Maria has appeared at Macworld Expo in San Francisco, Boston, and Toronto as Conference Faculty starting in 1992 and is for speaking engagements. Her areas of expertise are Mac OS, Microsoft Office applications, and Internet content creation tools, including WordPress for blogging and Twitter.

Please contact her if you think you might want to work with her.

She is not interested in any one-on-one training or consulting projects at this time.
