Support this Site!

You may have noticed that there's very little third-party advertising on this site. I'd like to keep it that way. Here's how you can help:

  • Buy my books. They're available at great prices on Amazon.com.
  • Check out my training videos on Lynda.com. It's a great source for "all you can eat" training.
  • Donate a few dollars. It'll help cover my hosting costs and give you a chance to tell me what you want to see covered here.
  • Comment on blog posts. You can help get a discussion going that can benefit others, making the site more valuable for everyone.

  • Of course it is do as I say not do as I do (Ms 2.6.5).

But seriously – you end with the mantra “As usual, you should back up your WordPress database before upgrading.” but do you know a way of verifying that those backups are any good. How can you test them?

I’m very afraid to upgrade to this, because when we updated to 2.7, the site blew up and we lost everything!! Had to start from scratch!

Luckily, I had some articles saved, but loads were gone, and Google on cached a portion of each article.

    So, until I hear more, I don’t think I will upgrade. :(

  • Wordpress 2.9 is available now. Any chance you could do a piece on this?

I still haven’t upgraded yet. I find it rather difficult to make sense of the technical jargon that accompanies new releases or at less make sense of them in a meaningful way.

    • Joseph: A piece on what? WordPress 2.9? What part of WordPress 2.9?

I’ve written (with a co-author, no less), an entire book about a previous version of WordPress. I’ve also written three complete video courses, each of which are several hours long, about various versions of WordPress. And I’ve written numerous articles for publications about WordPress. I was adequately compensated for all this work. After all, this is what I do for a living.

It’s very difficult to earn a living as a writer if I spend all my time writing articles on request for free in this blog when I could be writing books, articles, and video courses for publishers who pay me to to so.

The content in this blog is in support of the books, articles, and courses I write about for pay elsewhere. If I’m not paid to write about WordPress, it’s not very likely that I’ll write much about it here. Sorry, but I’m sure you understand the importance of paying my mortgage and buying food.
