I purchased the 2008 upgrade and during install it asked me to remove old versions (2004)

Then when I launched 2008 for this first time it asked me to find the old version. Which of course I had deleted!!!!

aaaaaggggghhhhhhh

Anyone know what I can do?

Thanks

I just bought the student version of Office for Mac 2008, and now I'm skeptical to install it and upgrade from 2004....I've read too many people's comments about how slow Excel runs, and how bad 2008 is compared to 2004. Maybe I should just stick with Office 2004. Any input?

What a pain in the arse! Really what is the point of upgrading if you alienate anyone who needs to read your work.

So true! I saw the Windows Office 2007 on people's computers at school. Wow! That new interface is absolutely terrible for anyone who has spent more than 1 month using a computer the 'old way'. I was very glad to see Mac Office using the 'old way'. But I too am downgrading back to Office 2004. The compatibility issues are a real problem, Word and Excel crash all the time, and Word has suddenly gone extremely buggy on me. I am a power-user of Word, particularly the drawing tools, and I do *not* like some of the things they have done to 'simplify' things and 'help' me. Good grief!

Office 2008 for Mac isn't nearly as bad as Office 2007 for Windows. The Windows version is a real nightmare for a long-time user. I can deal with the Mac version, but I really don't see any reason to, given that there's no added benefit, the file formats are different, and macros aren't supported. So I have both versions on my MacBook Pro, but I don't think I'll be updating my iMac back in the office. When I'm using Windows, I just try really hard to avoid Office.

I'm with you. My new laptop came with it installed and I thought I was going to pull out my hair and some body parts. It's a pain to save things as old versions constantly (and remember to do it) as my editors and clients aren't using the newer version either.

I'm so with you. Very frustrating. I know they work overtime on usability, but this is crazy thinking and breaks so many long-held standards that Microsoft and others worked so hard to develop. It takes me so much longer to do the most simple task like changing fonts or adding images. ARGH.
