Have a question about something in one of my Word books? Here’s how to get the answer:
- Browse through the comments at the end of this article to see if someone else has already asked your question. You might get the answer without even asking!
- If your question is not asked (or answered), use the Leave a Comment form at the bottom of this post to enter your question. (If the form does not appear, click the Comment link below to display it.)
- Check in once in a while to see if your question is answered. I usually answer questions within 48 hours, unless I’m out of town. To have responses to your question delivered to you automatically by e-mail, along with other Q & A comments submitted for this book, turn on the Notify Me check box at the bottom of the form when submitting your question (step 2). You can unsubscribe to the notification feature at any time.
Please do not use the Contact form to ask me questions. I won’t answer them. I want the questions and answers here, where everyone can see them, so I don’t have to answer the same questions over and over again.
Remember, I can only answer questions that clarify or correct information in my books. If the answer to your question is in my book, I will provide a page number reference to help you find it.

Hi, I’m on page 39 of your “Creating Spreadsheets and Charts” book and my computer will not allow me to copy and paste the formula ie doesn’t automatically adjust to the new cell that it is pasted into. However if I take my project over to my friends computer it works.
I’m guessing there is perhaps something “unchecked” or “turned off” in my computer.
Thx, appreciate your help.

This is very strange. I’ve never heard of this happening before.
One question: Are you sure you’re using in the COPY command and not the CUT command? The CUT command will copy the formula verbatim — it assumes you want the results of the existing formula moved to a new cell. The COPY command will properly change the cell references. Please do try again and let me know how you do. I can’t think of anything else that would cause you to get the results you’re getting.

I need to insert to photos next to each other in this doc. In fact, they are in this doc, but they do not stay put went printed and jump above the text. I thought if I could reinsert them, I might have better luck at placing them where they belong, but I can’t find any reference to inserting a copied photo, only from file or inserting some absurd clip art.
I find a lot of reference to text boxes and frames, but no proper explanation of which is more useful for what. If this is in your book, please do refer me to the page! And/or, please tell me how to properly insert two photos next to one another (left/right) on a page.
Thank you.

It appears that what you want to do is wrap text around an image. Once you set the image up so text wraps around it, you can drag it into a different position if you want to move it.
The page reference depends on the book you’ve got:
- In the Word 2004 VQS, it’s on pages 218-220
- In the Word 2003 VQS, it’s on pages 220-222
Hope this helps. Good luck!

When will Microsoft Word 2007 for Windows Visual QuickStart Guide be published as I already own Win Excel 2007 Visual QuickStart Guide and am not able to get any info on when WORD will be published?
I have tried Amazon, Peachpit and now you, the Author…..
Maybe, you have an answer for me?
Thank you,
Marjorie

Marjorie, sorry to say that it won’t be published at all. Peachpit discontinued its Word Visual QuickStart Guides after the Word 2000 edition. They’re slowly but surely limiting the series to books that do very well in stores. The Word for Windows VQS has lots of competition and simply didn’t sell well enough to revise.
This is disappointing for me, as the author, because it has effectively killed one of my titles. I used to write the Word and Excel books for Windows and Mac. The only title still viable these days is the Excel for Windows book (although there’s a tiny chance they might revise my Mac Word book for the next version of Word).
Sorry I couldn’t share better news!
