Have a question about something in one of my Excel books? Here’s how to get the answer:

  1. Browse through the comments at the end of this article to see if someone else has already asked your question. You might get the answer without even asking!
  2. If your question is not asked (or answered), use the Leave a Comment form at the bottom of this post to enter your question. (If the form does not appear, click the Comment link below to display it.)
  3. Check in once in a while to see if your question is answered. I usually answer questions within 48 hours, unless I’m out of town.   1. I have Excel version 11.2.3 (2004 for MAc).

    What is the correct book I should buy?

  2. Sadly, we did not update my book for Excel 2004. The last version of my Excel for Mac book is Excel X. It’s VERY similar, but you should probably get a book that covers the version you’re using. Sorry, but I don’t have any recommendations.

  3. I cannot get the gridlines to print on my worksheet. I have checked “gridlines ” in print options. but no luck. Any suggestions.

  4. I have Microsoft Excel 2000, and my book is “Visual Quick Project – Creating Spreadsheets and Charts in Excel” copyright 2005. My question was – I cannot get the gridlines to print on my worksheet. I have checkes “gridlines” in print options, but no luck. Thank you.

  5. This topic is not covered at all in the book you have. That book was written based on Excel 2003 for Windows and Excel 2004 for Mac OS.

    I no longer have access to Excel 2000, but my Excel 2000 Visual QuickStart Guide clearly shows a Gridlines option under Print in the Sheet tab of the Page Setup dialog (page 173). If that’s turned on for the sheet you want to print, gridlines on that sheet should print. If they don’t, I’m afraid I don’t know what the problem is.

    thanks for your help earlier,

    dont know if you know how to run macros in excel i have made them and they are working fine but when i close and openit again it says the security level is set to high so even if i change it to low it still says the same thing and wont let me use the macros it says something about signed certificates dont suppose you have a simple solution so i will always be able to use macros anyway thanks again

  7. Sorry, asked my question in the wrong place i have excel version 2000 xp but only have a book on word quickproject thats how i found out about you and looked you up on the internet and found this amazing website i will ask my question in the write place now, sorry.

  8. I no longer have Excel 2000; Excel 2007 is the current version. I did write an Excel 2000 book (seven years ago) and covered that feature on page 212. To my knowledge, however, the warning dialog that you’re probably seeing cannot be disabled in Excel 2000. In later versions, there is a preferences setting to disable it. Sorry I can’t be more help.

    I’m using the Microsoft Excel 2007 Visual Quickstart Guide as a refresher & finding it very helpful.(and I paid full price!). I just can’t seem to find Appendix A mentioned on page 9 with a list of the shortcut keys. Please adivse.

  11. I am a computer beginner. I have Excel, within a suite of programs, but I’ve never used it. Can you tell me how I could use it to automatically generate random numbers, as Ive seen you discuss? I just don’t understand it all. Sorry, Maria; and thank you!

  12. Jeff, unless you have a good understanding of Excel, it’s difficult to explain (beyond my article) how to set up a random number generator. My advice: learn the basics of Excel and come back to the article. I think you’ll be able to put it to good use then. Good luck!
